Sting to Appear on The Andrew Marr Show This Sunday!

Sting will appear on The Andrew Marr Show on BBC One this Sunday, December 8 at 9AM/GMT for a live interview and performance from his new album, The Last Ship! Other guests will include a senior UK Cabinet Minister, Neil Kinnock (the former Leader of the Labour Party), and Sir Trevor MacDonald, the first TV journalist to interview Nelson Mandela on his release from Robben Island. This will be Sting's third appearance on The Andrew Marr Show. Be sure to tune in on Sunday!

Sting is sailing 'The Last Ship' to Broadway...

The English singer is invigorated by the creative challenge of his first Broadway musical, 'The Last Ship.' He's got an album of some of the songs, and a tour with Paul Simon is planned. On a recent weekday afternoon, Sting was sitting in a Burbank dressing room, quietly reading on a tablet computer as he waited to make an appearance on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno." A chat with Leno wasn't the English singer's only reason for being in L.A.; two nights earlier, he'd entertained a crowd of celebrities and show-biz executives at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's annual Art + Film Gala. Asked how the gig went, Sting put down the tablet, took off his glasses and reported that no one had asked for his or her money back...

Sting on a sailing ship of childhood memories...

Music legend Sting is back with his first full-length LP since 2003 and "The Last Ship" recently began its sail around the world. Inspired by the composer, singer, women's activist and actor's forthcoming Broadway play of the same name, the album draws upon childhood memories amongst other relationship related issues. Sting, a former primary school teacher, has talked about impactful, and sometimes awkward moments growing up near a shipyard in Newcastle. One of the most defining in his life was discovering his mother with her lover. Looking inside himself led to his musical career that has lasted a quarter of a century. During that time, he has earned 16 Grammy awards and sold nearly 100 million albums from his time with The Police and as a solo artist, with smash hits like "Roxanne" and "Englishman in New York"...

Sting sails into Chicago to promote 'Last Ship'...

Sting and actor Jimmy Nail performed songs from "The Last Ship" at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place in Chicago Friday. The two were promoting Sting's album of the same name and the fact that Chicago will host the pre-Broadway world premiere of "The Last Ship" at the Bank of America Theatre from June 10 to July 13, 2014. Whenever the 17-time Grammy Award-winning pop superstar Sting plays the Chicago area, it's typically in huge venues like Soldier Field or Rosemont's Allstate Arena. But on Friday, Sting played the comparatively tiny Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place for an exclusive hourlong concert and chat session to promote his forthcoming Broadway musical "The Last Ship," which will make its pre-Broadway world premiere run in Chicago starting June 10 at the Bank of America Theatre...

Fan Feedback to The Public Theater Benefit Concerts...

Thank you Sting, for your efforts to bring something so original & personal to the Broadway stage. The album tracks from 'The Last Ship' & the run of shows at the Public Theater make it clear that is shaping up to be something far more than the typical rock star jukebox musical or film adaptations that have cluttered the stage in recent years. The chance to hear the stories that inspired the songs & the rare glimpse into the creative process - seeing these songs performed while the show itself is still in development & while new material is still being created was all such a wonderfully unique opportunity, not only for your fanbase, but for anyone fortunate enough to score a ticket. I also greatly appreciated the visual elements of the concert, from the poles made to look like the masts of a ship & the images of ships being built & the impact of the industry on your hometown. I grew up in the shadows of monolithic grain elevators that to this day stand as reminders of the backbreaking work my ancestors, Irish immigrants on the Buffalo waterfront, did for many years, shortly after arriving in this country. I think that the story that you're hoping to tell with your characters & their desire to build this "last ship," not for investors but for themselves & their humanity, is one that will resonate with audiences well outside of Wallsend.
