Sting’s Book of the Month, September 2018...

September 05, 2018

It’s time for September’s edition. I’m reading “The Shepherd’s Hut” by Australian writer Tim Winton. It’s about a boy escaping from his abusive father, and setting off alone into the Deserts of Western Australia. Riveting language and unforgettable searing imagery.

Tim Winton: Eyrie, Cloudstreet, The Ride
Thrilled to see your shout out for Winton. He's a favorite of mine , I've read all of his titles., including his children's book and Australian Colors, his book on landscape of the region. If anyone likes The Shepherd's Hut, I highly recommend Eyrie, for it's thematic elements of ecology versus progress, as well as sheer badass humor. Cried when it ended. Cloudstreet is another one that is required reading in Australian high schools. In my blog I covered him extensively and I could always tell when assignments came due in AU because I'd see very specific searches and traffic to his books (everyone wants a shortcut!) that I've reviewed. Dirt Music is just plain romance with a Romeo and a villain. The villains are always the best!

The Shepherd's Hut
This book is getting rave reviews on both sides of the pond. But that doesn't matter. What matters is that you recommend it. I haven't yet found where the rest of your monthly recommendations are, but I will. So happy to share a good read with you and all of your fans.
