Sting concert in Hamburg: Mega star brings his son on stage!

The megastar had singer-songwriter Joe Sumner (47) with him as support. Of course, real fans know: He is Sting's, whose real name is Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, eldest son.

But the evening only really got going when the older of the two came on stage. With "Message in a Bottle", "Englishman in New York" and "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" he fired out three of his biggest hits right at the beginning.

"It's been a long time since the last time. You all kept your tickets. And we're all still alive," the singer greeted the 12,000 people in the Barclays Arena in German. They had to wait again and again for new rescheduled dates - first due to the pandemic, then because of the singer's illness.

What followed was a gallop through his best-of program - both as a solo artist and as a member of the new wave band "The Police". Everything flowed in a relaxed and easy way, from the rock star finger-pointing to the audience to personal speeches from the front row to a father-son duet to “King of Pain”.

In addition, Sting brought fantastic musicians onto the stage with the harmonica player Shane Sager and the background singers Gene Noble and Melissa Musique, who he also liked to give a place in the spotlight.

The audience rocked, clapped along rhythmically and, after the first half of the concert, gradually crept into the front rows where the seats were actually seated, until at the end everyone was dancing and singing to “Roxanne”.

And Sting? Not once did he live up to the image of an aged rock star. Instead, he impressed as a calm professional.

Last year, Sting had to reschedule his Germany concerts, which had already been postponed. In addition to Hamburg, his performances in Leipzig, Cologne and Oberhausen were also affected.

This winter, German fans can now look forward to the rescheduled dates in Leipzig (November 28th) and Cologne (December 4th), as well as concerts in Nuremberg (December 6th) and Hanover (December 7th).

And further dates have already been announced for next year: Then the rock star will be taking his “My Songs 2024” tour to Fulda (July 20th) and Stuttgart (July 28th), among others.
